So, you want to purchase a suppressor?

We partner with SilencerShop to make the process easy and painless.

What is Needed to Begin?

  • Email Address
  • Email address billy@btbguns.com unblocked
  • Accounts
    • Silencer Shop
      • username
      • password
    • ATF eForms
      • username
      • password
      • PIN
  • SilencerShop Purchase
    • Select Suppressor
    • Traditional or Single Shot Trust (optional but highly encouraged)
    • Tax Stamp

Step 1

Research brands and calibers that you are interested in. YouTube is an excellent source of review material for this. There are many, many options and configurations on the market.

Step 2

Purchase the suppressor of your choice via this link to SilencerShop. This is an important step for two reasons. The first is that the link will automatically set Bite the Bullet as your Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL). The second is that without Bite the Bullet set as your FFL, there will be a charge for using the kiosk as you complete your registration information.

There are suppressor deals on SilencerShop that offer a free tax stamp with certain suppressors. If your particular suppressor does not have this offer, you will need to add a tax stamp to your purchase.

It is also highly recommended that you add either a OneShot Trust or Traditional NFA Trust to your purchase. There are pros and cons to both.

Step 3

Complete your SilencerShop registration information. Most of this can be completed at home via your account management. Two important portions of this registration information are uploading your picture (passport style) which can be done on your smartphone and completing your fingerprints. You will need to visit the FFL to complete this step. Again, there is no charge for using the kiosk with Bite the Bullet set as your FFL.

Step 4

Visit the FFL to complete your registration (fingerprints) via the SilencerShop kiosk. Again, there is no charge for using the kiosk with Bite the Bullet set as your FFL. The staff will assist you with completing fingerprints if needed. Your registration information will show 100% complete once this is completed (within a few minutes).

Step 5

SilencerShop will validate all information submitted to this point and send you an email link with an eDocument that you will need to eSign. This is an easy step. Just follow the instructions in the email. Once this document is signed, SilencerShop will then begin preparing your information for ATF eForms submission.

Step 6

At this point, your eForm 4 is ready to certify. This a joint process between you and the FFL. You MUST have an ATF eForms account to complete this step. Your eForms account email address MUST match your SilencerShop account email address. ATF eForms will generate a username for you. You will need to create a password and a PIN. DO NOT lose/forget this information. The process CANNOT proceed without this information.

You will receive an email from the shop (billy@btbguns.com). Please ensure this email address is not blocked by your email application/service. This email will contain instructions for the next step which will include selecting a time and date to complete your certification. Certification can be completed remotely (at home) or in person at the shop. If you choose remote certification, ensure that you have a computer (laptop/desktop) available. Mobile devices will not work for this step.

Step 7

Wait, wait, and wait some more. Your NFA item purchase is complete and waiting on ATF approval. This can take in the range of 8 to 12 months for the status to come back from the ATF. There is nothing the FFL can do speed up this process. The FFL cannot check on the status of the Form 4.

Step 8

Keep an eye on the email address you use for SilencerShop and ATF eForms. Eventually, you will receive an email detailing your Form 4 application status (approved/disapproved). Regardless of status, you will receive a phone call from the FFL to confirm this status with you. If your Form 4 has been approved, continue to the next step.

Step 9

Visit the FFL to complete the transfer of your suppressor. You will need to bring a government issued photo ID with your current address listed (a driver’s license is preferred). You will then complete an ATF Form 4473. This is the same form you would fill out when purchasing a firearm. However, a background check will not be necessary as one was already completed as part of the NFA approval process.

Step 10

Have fun with your new suppressor. Merry can-mas!

Bite the Bullet NFA News and Information

Silencer Shop Gold Dealer Form 1s, Form 4s and Wait times.

We are about 3 weeks past the ATF “Brace Rule”. Interesting that the ATF estimated that between 3 to 7 million braces were in circulation. Congressional research estimate was substantially higher with 10 to 40 million.

How many people “registered the braces they have?

Looks like only about 250,000 went through the process.

I have not had the time to keep up with where the current lawsuits are at. The news cycle changes so rapidly these days it’s hard to track.

That said I believe this brace ruling and the new Form 1s that came into the ATF has not allowed them to completely catch up with processing. The Form1s we are seeing are not getting approved as fast as before.

That said, the wait time has always been a factor when people buy NFA item. Trust us we know both personally and from a shop standpoint.

From what we are seeing in the shop, what Silencer Shop is reporting (see the above link) and what customers have noticed wait times are coming back down again. Still, it’s nowhere near the promised 90 days for eForms from the ATF.

Right now Silencer shop has a lot of promotions going on. From Free Tax Stamps (see the below link) to SilencerCo BOGO (Buy one Get One Free) offers.
