Third Party NFA Transfers

We use SilencerShop for the majority of our NFA Transactions. However, in some instances the item you are wanting to purchase is not available in the SilencerShop system. An option is to purchase the item directly from a manufacturer, another dealer, or another distributor. This is known as a third party NFA transfer and we do provide this service here at Bite the Bullet for a $100 fee. However, there are specific steps and actions that must be taken.

Step 1

You MUST call and/or email the shop at (812) 523-3010 or shop@btbguns.com to inform our staff of your desire to complete a third party NFA transfer.

Step 2

You MUST coordinate with the vendor to contact us via the above contact information to initiate the transfer process. We do not provide copies of our SOT to customers. We will only provide this to the vendor once they contact us.

Step 3

Once the NFA item arrives at the shop, staff will contact you to settle the $100 NFA transfer fee. Only after this fee has been processed will the item be added to SilencerShop to continue processing the NFA application. It is important to note that the NFA item IS NOT ready for pick up or certification at this point.

Step 4

Create a SilencerShop account and complete your registration information. Most of this can be completed at home via your account management. Two important portions of this registration information are uploading your picture (passport style) which can be done on your smartphone and completing your fingerprints. You will need to visit Bite the Bullet to complete this step. There is no charge for using the kiosk when completing a third party NFA transfer.

Optional

Purchase either a single-shot trust or traditional NFA trust via the SilencerShop system. If you already have an executed traditional NFA trust, you can upload it to your registration information.

Step 5

Visit Bite the Bullet to complete your registration (fingerprints) via the SilencerShop kiosk. Again, there is no charge for using the kiosk when completing a third party NFA transfer. The staff will assist you with completing fingerprints if needed. Your registration information will show 100% complete once this is completed (within a few minutes).

Step 6

SilencerShop will validate all information submitted to this point and send you an email link with an eDocument that you will need to eSign. This is an easy step. Just follow the instructions in the email. Once this document is signed, SilencerShop will then begin preparing your information for ATF eForms submission.

Step 7

At this point, your eForm 4 is ready to certify. This is a joint process between you and the shop. You MUST have an ATF eForms account to complete this step. Your eForms account email address MUST match your SilencerShop account email address. ATF eForms will generate a username for you. You will need to create a password and a PIN. DO NOT lose/forget this information. The process CANNOT proceed without this information.

You will receive an email from the shop (billy@btbguns.com). Please ensure this email address is not blocked by your email application/service. This email will contain instructions for the next step which will include selecting a time and date to complete your certification. Certification can be completed remotely (at home) or in person at the shop. If you choose remote certification, ensure that you have a computer (laptop/desktop) available. Mobile devices will not work for this step.

Step 8

Wait, wait, and wait some more. Your NFA item purchase is complete and waiting on ATF approval. This can take some time (days/weeks/months) for the status to come back from the ATF. There is nothing Bite the Bullet can do speed up this process. We cannot check on the status of the Form 4.

Step 9

Keep an eye on the email address you use for SilencerShop and ATF eForms. Eventually, you will receive an email detailing your Form 4 application status (approved/disapproved). Regardless of status, you will receive a phone call from shop staff to confirm this status with you. If your Form 4 has been approved, continue to the next step.

Step 10

Visit the Bite the Bullet to complete the transfer of your NFA item. You will need to bring a government issued photo ID with your current address listed (a driver’s license is preferred). You will then complete an ATF Form 4473. This is the same form you would fill out when purchasing a firearm. However, a background check will not be necessary as one was already completed as part of the NFA approval process.
